Winged Joy

"He who binds himself to joy doth the winged life destroy but he who kisses the joy as it flies lives in eternity's sunrise. " So wrote William Blake, artist, poet, printer - born November 28, 1757, died August 12, 1827. I just loved Blake as a child and teenager, and drew my own pictures copying his style. I think of this quote everytime I try to impress upon my mind and memory the ineffable beauty of a summer rose.

Vintage birthday photo

I love vintage birthday photos - the fancy home made cakes, the hats, the streamers, the kids concentrating so hard on blowing out the two or three candles on their cakes - that's the way birthdays were in a simpler time! This is NOT a picture of my brother at an early birthday, although I have several. I wasn't sure he'd appreciate being posted!

Collage in honor of my mother

I made this collage in an altered book in honor of my mother, the queen of our clan. I then scanned it in and used it as a greeting card to send her.

Wisteria

In April, my backyard is sumptuous with wisteria, draped all along my fence and running riot through my honeysuckle bush. It is such an unearthly shade of lavender and its fragrance is so wonderful that I forgive it anything.

Miss Louisa Potts

This is my rather frowsy 1780s Queen Anne style doll, Miss Louisa Potts, who is the patroness of this blog. I love her dearly, although one of her legs keeps falling off and she is actually rather poor quality (which is why I could afford her!)
